Day 342 (Tuesday 11th November 08)
An early start as Em needed the toilet at about 5:30am. Since we were up decided to head straight on and got a good view of the sunrise. A nice drive along the coast and stopped at the Moeraki Boulders for a walk along the beach. Then up to Shag Point to see more yellow eyed penguins and lots of New Zealand Fur seals. Got very close to one that was sleeping and it woke up while we were there. Luckily it headed straight for the water once it saw us and not towards us! Onto the next viewpoint at Shag point to see even more seals and then back on the road to Dunedin. Went to the information centre and saw that we could do the Cadburys and Speight tour and get a discount, thought we would take advantage of this. What more could you want, beer and chocolate! Found somewhere to park and went in to book on the next Cadburys tour. Had a look around until our tour started and then got a good look at the chocolate making! Had to wear funny hats on our hair and Mark also had to wear one to cover his stubble! Got some free chocolate and saw the chocolate fall at the end which was pretty cool. Had some time before the next Speight's brewery tour started so thought we would go and have a look at the World's Steepest Street. Em thought we were going to walk up it but before she knew it Mark was driving up it and it was very scary!! The petrol light came on as we were going up so hoping we weren't going to run out! Very scary! Then we had to come down! Went and got our certificate for going up the World's Steepest Street and then went in search of some more batteries for the camera as we were running out. It was then to Speight's for the brewery tour which was really good but the tasting at the end was even better. We all got shown how to pour a pint and then help ourselves as much as we wanted to any of the 6 different beers. Didn't drink too much as we had to drive but could have easily stayed there a while! Needed to use the internet so went to look for some parking. After ages of looking ended up in a mutli storey car park as there was nowhere else for long enough. Went off to the use the internet and when we walked back down the road to the car park at about 8pm noticed the OPEN light was off. Mark made a joke that we wouldn't be able to get in to get the car out but we didn't think it would actually be closed that early. It was closed! We couldn't believe it, there was a small sign saying that it closed at 6:15pm. Luckily there was a number to call so wrote the number down and back to the internet to use their phone to call them to let us in to get the car. They said they would be along in the next 5 minutes so went back to wait. The guy seemed nice and only made us pay the 35 dollar call out charge and not the amount outstanding on our parking ticket as well. Once we had Hump Puppy out filled up with petrol and headed down to the Otago Pennisula. Made something to eat and then went in search of somewhere to stay for the night. Was not as easy as we thought but in the end found somewhere!
