Day 367 (Saturday 6th December 08)
Left Auckland and the campsite after saying goodbye to Annie and Willy. Started the drive up the west coast of Northland. Decided we didn't like the look of many places on the west coast as there were lots of signs up saying there was a lot of car theft. You could pay one of the Lion's volunteers to watch your car in the car park while you went off to see the attractions. Didn't really want Hump Puppy broken into as that is our lives so carried on further up until we found somewhere we liked. Spent most of the day driving and ended up in making something to eat in a rest area on the side of the road. Stopped in Kaitaia and played some backpacker. Thought we would probably stay the night here until we looked in the Lonely Planet and it said that if you left anything in the boot of your car and then left your car that was as good as saying that you didn't want whatever you had left and pretty much your car either! Decided it wasn't a very good idea to stay here so again set off further north. Next tried to stay in Awanui and were just about to go to sleep when a car pulled up in the same little car park that we were in. The driver got out and started to hang around acting a bit strange so thought we best move on especially after what the invigilator from Em's exam had said when she dropped us home! Drove on again further north and spotted another campervan parked up in a car park in Houhora so decided that we should be safe with someone else around as well.
