Day 267 (Thursday 28th August 08)

Another very early start to be ready for the minibus to the airport at 7:30am. A horrible rainy day! Fast driving to pick up and other people and to the airport. A good flight with Qantas to Ayers Rock which took nearly 4 hours. Picked up the hire car and drove to the hotel to check in. Unpacked and went for a swim. Freezing when we got out so we were quickly up the room. One of the hotel staff saw us and guessed we must be English as he thought we were made to be swimming! Apparently it is the first day this year that they have had rain! Not doing too well with the weather at the moment! Later on went down to play some backpacker and have a drink in the bar. Then went to the shopping mall and back for a massive buffet. Lots of amazing seafood! Made the most of the tasty food!

Day 268 (Friday 29th August 08)

After a massive buffet breakfast drove to Ayers Rock. Had a look around the cultural exhibition to find out the history on the rock and then went to park at the main car park to walk around the base of Ayers Rock. A really good walk and started to get quite sunny! Just under 10km and was very impressive to be walking around the rock. Passed some aboriginals and got lots of good pictures of around Ayers Rock. It was then back to the hotel for a swim and get changed ready for the Sounds of the Silence Dinner. Went to wait outside the hotel to be picked up when someone turned up to say that it had been cancelled as they was a storm forecast. All very disappointed so back to the room to change our trousers and shoes so we could walk up to the sunset lookout over Ayers Rock. Got a couple of nice pictures but not a very good sunset as it was so cloudy. Had a drink in the bar and played backpacker before another massive amazing buffet! The rain then started and didn't stop all night.

Day 269 (Saturday 30th August 08)

The rain still falling we filled ourselves again at breakfast. Decided to go out anyway and hope that the rain would stop we drove to The Olgas. The weather started to clear up and was quite nice by the time we reached the first view point. Once at The Olgas had a nice walk through the gorge. When we were finished drove back to the hotel. Chilled out for the rest of the afternoon and then off for a drink and another amazing buffet.
