Hello Everyone,
In the last week of my stay in Guyana, I went to help the summer school at David Rose School where Lawrence and Mary set up every summer for past 3 years to support the deaf children to get better access to education where the school itself dont support them well with their teaching.
We helped 15 deaf children, range from 5 years old to 16 years old. WE teach them English, Maths, Sciences and Social Skills with once a week trip to museum, president's office and DIH banks factory. We went to President's office and we really enjoyed the trip and it was really successful one because lots of deaf awareness was impacted on the president advisor and staff that deaf children are well behaved and intelligent. they actually consider about our offer to ask about deaf school only. they are looking into it and might give us a school to support deaf children only. but still early days and its showing good signs for the deaf community.
The school itself are very well planned and everyone learned so much in 5 weeks programme. I hope that everyone will support the deaf community and the school for teh deaf children in near future.
I really enjoyed the last week, went out every night to different places to spend last moment with deaf people at bars, their houses, deaf club and church. I was very sad to leave on 30th July as lots of deaf people came around to say good byes to me and Ashton and have last chats and all those things before we leave at 3am with Gordon and his wife as they got car and decided to give us a lift to airport.
We left Guyana at 7am with some tears running down on my eyes and Annestijns too.
Farewell Guyana, we will never forget you for the rest of my life and will visit you in 2008.
