Deaf Guyana
Hello buddies once again!
Been a great weekend with US deaf mission team!! they are fantastic bunch of people. There are 20 of them came to Guyana to do some support for the Deaf community in Bible studies, sign language classes etc in Bartica, Parika and Georgetown.
The team is mainly interpreters and there are 2 deaf people in the team. They came to Guyana to teach the deaf community some god stuffs and also we all interested to learn more advance ASL from them which it is jaw dropping ASL!! lots of things i have learned from them especially about the Deaf life in USA and the universities in USA too.
We meet them for the first time on Saturday which they came from Bartica after spending 5 days there, we get on well and talked about everything from Guyana, to USA and England lifestyle! They all are really interested in BSL which i taught them the fingerspelling which they say that it is totally different and interesting! :D i suppose it is same from us english into their language! :S
They did brilliant workshop of bible studies, mixed with some games which we all enjoyed all day of it, they did brilliant drama of god and devil which it is really interesting to watch. I have learned a lot about ASL during the weekend!
I took them to the Deaf club and they enjoyed meeting more deaf people there and learned more about Guyanese deaf community. I am glad that they had a good time.
We was sad to see them leaving us on Sunday morning after the church service as we feel that we have lots more to learn from each others. I say that it is invaluable experience to meet the US deaf mission team and i hope to visit them in Rochester next year or so to learn lot more about ASL and make new friends.
Brilliant weekend and experience for me and Guyanese deaf people.
