Our first day in London has been a blast. After getting a bus in to the city centre we navigated the tube to our hotel. Let me tell you that oz needs to take a look at this to see what public transport should be like. We dropped our bags off and decided to go for a wander and see the sights. Our first sight of Big Ben and the houses of parliament was almost surreal. We could hardly believe we were standing in front of these places. From there we had a wander past Westminster Abbey then in to St James Park. The park was beautiful itself just to be in but all of a sudden we saw these little things running here, there and everywhere. Squirrels! Man these little things are so hyper. Jac cracked open a gorilla biscuit (banana) and tried to entice them but they weren't having a bar of it. Oh well. These little b*****s were just fun to watch.
From there we headed off to Buckingham Palace to chat to Lizzie but she must have been too busy as she wasn't around. We'll try and drop in for a cuppa later in the week. So we stopped at a shop and grabbed some chips and a bag of peanuts before heading back to the park. That's when things really started to heat up. We had found the secret weapon. Our squirrel friends loved us now. For the next hour we had them eating from our hands and climbing all over us. We were giggling like school kids. We could have spent all day with the little critters. The only reason we continued on our way was because we had exhausted our nut supply.
We headed to Trafalgar Square and had a wander around the National Gallery. Even though I am not an art lover it is still pretty amazing to be looking at paintings from the 1200's and by famous artists like Monet & Van Gough. From there it was on to Oxford street and a spot of window shopping.
All in all it was a fantastic orientation to this amazing city. We love it already and we have so much more to see. We will activate our London pass tomorrow and get stuck right in and see as many things as we can. The hardest part though will be resisting the temptation to buy a big bag of peanuts and just sit in the park with our furry little friends for the next 7 days. Well maybe we could spare a few hours here and there.
