We have packed a fair bit into our last few weeks in the UK. We have been out every weekend enjoying the city, and the alcohol. We had an Egypt reunion 2 weeks ago and celebrated by throwing fireworks and rocks. Well not exactly, we hit the town for dinner and drinks. The following day we headed back in for a Sunday session with half the group and a nice English pub meal.
On the Monday we headed up to Oxford with Dan & Caitlin. Dan is practicing for his tour guide roll so we were his test subjects. He did an awesome job and it was nice being with someone who knew about the place. The surprising thing is we expected the Uni to be a big place but is instead lots of small chapters all over the town, all self sufficient. We spent the whole day there and despite the cold had a great day.
The following weekend we headed for a night with Caitlin, who lives 3 mile down the road. Her place is like a hostel and everyone we met was so welcoming. It seems like such a social place to live and we can definately see the appeal of living in a place like that. We left just before midnight as I'd reached my limit which meant it was Jac's mission to get us home. She did a great job and we managed to catch the last bus back past our place. Success!
This week Jac was offered a job for the next 2 weeks which she took. It is in a private school but it is pretty close so will be good for her to get back out there. She is getting lots of offers but has not been able to accept them as she hasn't had her UK police check. Thankfully it turned up yesterday so she will be able to start looking at things more permantely now.
I had an interview with Trafalgar Tours this week and pretty much nailed it. Dan had helped get me to the interview stage as this is the job he has been doing. I went and caught up with him a few nights before the interview to get some tips and I am happy to say.....I'm now employed. I start on the 14th March so have a last few weeks of freedom which I'll make the most of. Will be good to get back into work although that will probably change in a few weeks. Thankfully everyone I met seems great and i should really enjoy it. Saying that I have been getting the travel bug again so can't wait to earn some more funds & start planning more travels.
On Thursday we jumped on the tube to head to the National History Museum. When we arrived all the museums had humungous lines because of school holidays. Little b******s wrecking our day. So we decided to go for a wander through Hyde Park and back in to the city. It was a beautiful 14 degs and the sun was shining. Flowers are starting to bloom and it is almost feeling like Spring is near. Can't wait for a little more of that kind of weather. We ended up having a picnic in St James Park before playing with the squirels. Sadly the park was so full that we didn't have the little vermin climbing all over us. It was still great to be outdoors though. From there we wandered up to have a look at Downing Street but it was a little under whelming. We were hoping to see the door with the police beside it but the whole street is blocked off. It makes sense but we were hopefull of seeing it like on TV.
Then it was on to wander along the Thames. I still get a buzz from seeing Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament so we strolled by enjoying the view. It was starting to get late so we jumped on the tube agian before peak hour. Jac really struggles with the crush but I still think its all part of the fun. Guess its the same the world over but at least you are never stuck for long in it here.
Last night we went and met Jac's friend Suze & her husband Leigh for dinner & some drinks. The girls know each other from Uni days and is always great to spend time with friendly faces. It was a great night and we finished off with a few drinks at Walkabout, an Australian Pub chain. It was gimmicky but still alot of fun and nice to hear some music from Oz. We headed back home for another drink before crashing for the night. Jac's off to work tomorrow fro the first time in 4 months & I'm a few weeks later. Can't wait to start planning some more trips away.
