So today we thought we'd take it easy. After a long lie in we made our way to Bergamo. Bergamo is a city I've stayed in a few times, just a short train journey from Milan. It's a really pretty medieval town with a lower and upper town which can be reached by funicular.
We ended up spending about 4.5 hours in Bergamo, just lazily strolling up and down the little cobbled streets. We took the funicular up to the top so we could take some lovely Landscape shots (which is where the blog photo was taken). Adam was particularly excited about the spotting of several lizards, they were way too quick for us to get hold of though!
It was a very hot day today with the temperature at about 32.We stopped for lunch in the upper town. Adam had a cheese flatbread type thing whilst I went for the Bergamo tasting menu. For 19 euros I got a large bottle of water, a glass of local red wine, a selection of local cheeses and meats, 4 cheese polenta, beef and sage ravioli and a sweet Bergamo pie. Everything was great except I didn't like the pie so Adam finished that one off. It was like bread and butter pudding. Polenta is the speciality of Bergamo so I was very insistent on finding a restaurant that served it.
When we got to the lower town we went for some ice cream at a place which I remembered from my last visit. Adam got pistachio ice cream in a cone whilst I got some biscuit and pastry cream ice cream in a cup. The heat almost instantly melted Adams ice cream and he ended up with it all over his feet, his shorts, his legs...I felt like a mother when I had to bring out the tissues and bottle of water from my bag to clean him up.
We came back to the hotel for a couple of hours, had showers and got ready for dinner.
Earlier on in the week Adam had got lost on a trek to get some crisps but had ended up finding some restaurants so tonight we thought we'd go check it out. We ended up eating at a really nice burger place, Adam had a classic type burger which he said was the best burger he's ever eaten. I had a make your own style burger with a turkey burger, Gorgonzola cheese, asparagus sauce and a fried egg which was also bloody delicious. A good find by Adam!!
