The alarm was set for 6.45am but Adam awoke me at 6 to ask when the alarm was set for so it was an early start for us! We headed to the hotel terrace to enjoy breakfast. There were lots of delicious pastries, biscuits, cereal, fruit, it was a good selection.
Whilst we were eating the owner came and talked to us and when learning our plans kindly offered to take us down to the marina in his car. It certainly beat the bus/ funicular option!
We got to the marina a bit earlier than anticipated because of this so we just wondered around, looked at the boats etc. There was a man walking a sausage dog who stopped to talk to us, her name was Olga and she was so cute! We also dropped our suitcases at the luggage deposit at the dock.
We then met up with the guy for our boat tour. We had 3 hours booked with a private guide and his boat. It was magical. We went around the islands and saw all the grottos. Adam forgot how to swim so after descending the ladder he quickly ascended it again and didn't go near the sea again.
Meanwhile I spent most of the time in the sea. There were occasions where we went in a grotto and I jumped out and under the rocks and met the boat around the other side. It was so fun.
Adam spent the whole time sunbathing and as a consequence he got sunburnt legs. I told him to put cream on but his argument was that legs don't burn. Think he learnt his lesson! Anyway the picture included is Adam relaxing on the boat. I'm hardly one to speak anyway, my back is severely burnt!
Once the boat tour was over we stopped at the marina for lunch. I had carbonara and Adam had carbonara pizza.
We then got the funicular up from the marina to the town of Capri. We did a bit of shopping, buying ourselves a 'lucky bell' to hang on our Christmas tree.
Then we went to the gardens of Augustus, a botanical garden with amazing views over the coast. Easy to get some beautiful photos!
After the gardens we went and got ice cream. I will miss Italian ice cream! This time I got cookie and some strawberry cream thing and Adam got tiramisu and snickers.
We went around a few more shops, Adam tried on some linen shirts and then we got the bus down to the marina. We were finding it hard to be in the sun with our sunburn.
The ferry over to Sorrento was short and sweet, only 20 minutes. I had done my research so knew from the Sorrento port there was buses every 40 minutes which went to the area of our hotel and they stopped at 10pm. We arrived at the port at 7.30pm to be told by a nearby waiter from a restaurant that the last bus had gone. At first we didn't trust him and waited but after we had waited for half an hour and none of the 3 buses that should have turned up did, we realised maybe he was right.
So we were in a predicament, I could tell from the map that it wasn't really walkable and what I hadn't realised was how many levels Sorrento is over. There was no way we could do it on foot. We had to cut our losses and get a rather expensive taxi.
We arrived at the hotel. Well I say hotel but it's actually a hostel. We're staying in a private room but there are dorms as well. The place is pretty cool. They have a bar, a computer room, a restaurant, loads of common areas. It feels like a uni place.
We were starving by this point so we decided as it was now about 8.30pm we'd just eat in the hostel. We ordered cannelloni from the restaurant and then went to the bar to find the cheapest drinks of our whole holiday! We got some and went and sat out in the courtyard. The food was delicious, it was a really nice end to the day :)
