Again this morning I decided to let us have a lie in and to my surprise we slept right through to 11, once again missing breakfast! We got up and dressed and were out the hotel by 12.
Close to our hotel we found a cafe that was selling American style breakfasts which we felt was a nice change to the usual Italian food. We both had a cheese and ham omelette followed by a chocolate and cream waffle. It was a good start to the day.
Then we had a walk over to where we were meeting for our tour. On the way over we managed to find a shop that sold every flavour of monster energy drink, a rarity in Italy, we were excited haha.
We then boarded the coach on the way to our first Tivoli stop, Hadrian's villa. It was only 18 miles so not long at all. The villa was very impressive, it was nearly 2000 years old and so it was pretty much ruins but still the scale of it was amazing. I'm happy we saw it as its noted as a monument that is eroding quite quickly.
It was then a 15 minute drive to villa d'este. The villa itself was nice, it was about 500 years old so still in near perfect condition and whereas Hadrian's villa spanned 300 acres this was the size of a modern mansion. However it was the gardens that really wowed us. The garden was full of fountains, some small and sweet, some that looked like bloody Niagara falls! The picture included is me in front of one of the larger fountains.
The weather today reached 38 and whilst we were at Hadrian's villa it was fine when we got to villa d'este it was harder because the garden was all different levels and there were a lot of steps and hills. I needed to get an ice cream and cool off before getting back on the coach.
When we got back to Rome we decided that as I wanted to wash my hair and we needed to pack ready to leave tomorrow a take away was the best option. We chose a place that did pizza by the slice and got a few different flavours, including our favourite, chip pizza. Much more popular out here than you would think!
