I had decided not to set an alarm for this morning as i figured that without an alarm we rarely get later than 9am. Well we ended up waking up at half 10! We missed breakfast so decided once we were dressed to head straight to lunch.

As we were walking from our hotel to the metro a man in a car pulled over asking for directions. Adam went over whilst I stood on the pavement, assuming he would just tell the bloke we were English and that would be the end of it. 2 seconds later I was called over. The man explained how he was from France, he was in Italy working as a buyer for Versace and needed to find the French embassy which was near the colosseum. I was a bit suspicious as I thought it was strange to explain your whole life story when asking for directions but I told him where he needed to head using my map. He said he was very grateful and to show his gratitude he gifted us a 'Versace' coat. Now I haven't been subscribed to
Vogue for half my life for nothing and I know genuine Versace when I see it and this weren't it!

He then said he needed some petrol for the car and was having card problems and did we have any money we could lend him? Well then I knew it was a scam! I told him we didn't carry money, we put everything on card, that Rome was full of too many dodgy characters. He started getting arsey, asking to see in my purse. At that point we walked away. I googled this evening and it turned out it's quite a well practised scam in Rome and there are dozens of stories of tourists losing 50-150 euros so I'm quite proud of our street smarts!

We headed to our lunch destination, a restaurant behind the colosseum. We sat indoors and had some lovely sandwiches with a side of fries and water. It was a perfect little lunch.

Then we entered the colosseum, we were lucky that unlike most places in Rome there was hardly any queue. We had prebooked tickets and it took us about 10 minutes to get in. It was amazing to walk around, to try and understand the things that would have happened there. There were plaques offering information and stories, like how they would fill the arena with trees and release a thousand ostriches into the arena. People could then enter and attempt to hunt down their meal for that night!

We also saw the arch of Constantine, which was what inspired the arc de triumphe. Whilst we were looking at it some Chinese people came and started taking pictures of their kid. It was a small boy of maybe 2 years old and they'd dressed him as a sailor and were making him do the most peculiar poses! Adam and I were laughing and some man came over and started telling us how he could see the next time we would be back in Rome it would be married with a child. It's all we could do to not laugh in his face!

We then explored the most ancient part of Rome, palatine hill and the Roman forum. These areas date back to 1000bc! We walked around the ruins and it was all impressive. At this point the weather had reached 35 degrees though and we were very warm. A few of the ruins we decided to skip because they involved climbing steps haha. Adam did end up with some pretty serious sunburn as a result of our afternoon. I blame him for being too 'cool' for suncream...apparently.

We ended up our tour with a trip to piazza vittorio enanuele which is the largest piazza in Rome. We then were able to get a metro from right inside the square. As I stepped onto the metro a bloody bird pooed on my ankle!

When we returned to the hotel the maid was in the middle of cleaning the room despite it now being about 5pm. We waited in the hotel courtyard for her to finish before going up.

We had a little time at the hotel to have showers and refresh ourselves and get ready for our Michelin star dinner!

We arrived at the restaurant and were seated, directly overlooking the colosseum. It couldn't have been more perfect and the sun set over it as we looked over the menu. I ordered a glass of wine. I could only afford one! Before our dinner they served us a little complimentary dish of smoked salmon and cucumber purée. As someone who doesn't like salmon or cucumber I wasn't particularly excited about but I ate it without feeling sick which was already a big thumbs up for them!

For our main meal I had ordered a veal fillet and Adam had a seafood risotto. My fillet was so gorgeous, big and juicy. Adam didn't mind his risotto but really I think he would have preferred a pizza! Then we got another complimentary pre dessert dish of some little white chocolate and lime drops, it was lovely.

Adam didn't fancy dessert but I went for the chocolate soufflé. It was literally divine, so nice. It came with some dark chocolate droplets around the plate so I let Adam eat them haha.

After dinner we had some more little complimentary chocolates which were served in this weird glass orb. Overall I quite enjoyed our Michelin star dining!
