We decided to alter our plans a bit to counteract the heat (which had reached 38 by noon). As a result we had a chilled out morning. We woke up at 10 and spent the morning just relaxing and getting some clothes washing done too.
At 1.15pm we set off to walk to the station to meet for our tour. The temperature had now risen to 45! As a result we decided it was best to give ourselves as much time as possible to do the walk and therefore gave ourselves 90 minutes to do the 40 minute walk.
The walk wasn't too bad as the extra time gave us the chance to duck into air conditioned shops to cool down every now and then plus we stopped for a quick bite to eat at a bakery. We had some chilled drinks, mozzarella and prosciutto sandwiches and cannoli.
Once at the station I had to have a strawberry slushie in order to cool myself down once again. I was pleased to get onto the air conditioned bus!
We then went to Siena where we had an hour and a half of free time. It was quite pretty, a medieval type place but it was very hilly and the duomo was all uphill so we decided in the 45 degree heat to skip it and instead look around the shops. I bought mum another birthday present and we did some tastings at a food shop. It was nice. The photo was taken in the main square.
Then we had a 50 minute drive out to our Tuscan vineyard. The drive itself was beautiful, all through the Tuscan countryside. There were just rows and rows of vines everywhere you looked.
We arrived at our Tuscan vineyard and were introduced to the owner. He have us a tour of his wine cellars and spoke through the Chianti wine he makes on his 300 acre vineyard. It was all impressive stuff.
Then we went and sat down on some tables outside where we had a wine tasting, we had 4 wines to try but I had 8 because I had Adams too :)
We had lots of snacks to accompany the food such as bruschetta, braised beef and some tomato and cucumber bread I didn't like. We finished with grappa and dark chocolate.
They had a little shop at the vineyard and I was able to buy mum her final birthday gift (no guessing what! Haha). Adam also saw a picture of a lion he really liked so we got it to remind us of the both of us being 'Leo's' and spending our birthday in Florence.
When we arrived back in Florence it was 10.30pm and still 30 degrees. We still however decided to take advantage of the cooler weather and reduced foot traffic and do some night time sight seeing. We walked along the river and saw the ponte vecchio bridge which was beautiful and went to some palazzos too. The Santa Croce had dancing in the square and it was a really great atmosphere walking around Florence at night.
We've just returned home now at midnight to get ourselves ready for tomorrow!
