So we had a reasonable lie in this morning and woke up at 9. After getting ready we headed downstairs for breakast. I say 'breakfast' but I actually mean we stopped at reception desk where we got a coffee and a pastry haha.
Our first stop this morning was the Vatican museum. I had booked tickets online so we walked straight in, if you hadn't booked tickets the queue to get in was 3 hours! Walking around was quite nice, basically a lot of marble c*** , but the ceilings were incredibly pretty.
At the end of the museums we got the chance to enter the Sistine chapel. Whilst elsewhere in the museum you can take photos they were incredibly strict about none in the chapel but you can see from the picture I got a sneaky one! It was incredibly beautiful. When we got out Adam asked where the painting was of God and Adam and touching of the fingers, I told him back in the chapel. He didn't believe me but if you look in the picture it's actually right above our head! So Adam missed the most important painting haha.
We then decided to stop for lunch. The downside of the lunch was the restaurant was pretty crap. Our pizzas were half burnt and Adam got a meal option that included a salad starter. The 'salad' was just a plate of lettuce, not even a dressing. The highlight however was that some nuns came and sat at the table next to us. Adam nearly s*** a brick when they ordered beers haha. So I can't imagine how he felt when they were talking to us, sharing their meal with us, they were really nice.
After lunch we headed over to St Peters square, where the basilica sits. It's all very amazing to look at, we were very impressed. I certainly appreciate it a lot more than when I visited as a teenager.
Then we headed down the road to Castel Sant Angelo, the mausoleum of Hadrien. We sat in the park behind it with an ice cream and some drinks. They had a water mist over the seating area so it was nice and cooling. Today the high has been 29, it's been really lovely.
We then walked back. By the time we got home it was about 4.30pm and we were feeling a bit exhausted. We decided to have a rest and a refresher.
About 7pm we headed back out with the intent of finding a Chinese. We've had over 2 weeks of Italian and just wanted something different. Italy has remarkably little variety with restaurants, even in a big city like Rome. However we managed to find one and it was delicious! We absolutely stuffed ourselves on spring rolls and sweet and sour pork and shrimp rice and fried chicken and prawn toast.
We left the restaurant feeling very satisfied and stopped in the local supermarket on our return for some little sweet treats that we can enjoy a bit later when our dinner has gone down :)
