After breakfast we walked over the road to the train station and bought our tickets to Montreux. The tickets cost us 52 CHF each! We caught the train at 9.18am and arrived in Montreux at 10.10am after a scenic train trip along the shores of Lake Geneva.
Walked down to the Tourist Information Centre to see which bus to catch to Chateau de Chillon. We caught bus number 1 to Vetaux and then walked across the road to Chateau de Chillon.
Magnificent location on the lake and the inside of the castle in original condition made it well worth the trip. We spent a few hours wandering around on the easy to follow self guided tour. Caught the bus back to Montreux and bought some sandwiches from a pub in the main street.
We then caught the train back to Geneva and collected our Europasses to book some more train trips for later in the trip, this time from Berlin to Munich.
Decided to take the Lonely Planet walking tour of Geneva as outlined in their Europe guide book. Started at Ile de Rousseau, then on to the Tour d'Ile. Walked up the narrow, cobbled Rue de Cité past Rousseau's Birthplace to Cathedral St.Pierre.
Climbed to the top of the North Tower which gave great views of Geneva and was occupied by a guy in a monks outfit and rubber mask whose only purpose seemed to be to scare people as they came to the top of the stairs..weird!!
Walked back to the hotel via the bank and had dinner. Went in search of a supermarket but without luck so made do with a convenience store to get a few supplies. Walked back to the hotel and rested before going to sleep.
