After breakfast at 8am, which included a chocolate rabbit for Easter, we caught the 9.50am train to Jungfraujoch.
After a scenic climb up the mountains we arrived in Kleine Scheidegg where we changed trains for the trip through the mountains to Jungfraujoch. We caught the 11am train which was packed full of people. The journey took about an hour as it cut through the Eiger and Mönch mountains. We stopped at Eigerwand and Eismeer stations in the mountain where you could look out windows that were cut into the sides of the mountain.
We arrived at Jungfraujoch and went out onto the plateau overlooking the glacier. Also had good views of the Sphinx Terrace higher up the mountain.
We walked on to the Ice Palace, a series of tunnels cut into the glacier. The floor, ceiling and walls were all ice which was slippery and the tunnels had displays with ice sculptures. The tunnels were 7 to 10 metres below the glacier surface.
Next, we caught the lift 100 meters straight up to the Sphinx Terrace. We took in the views from the observation deck of the surrounding mountains and the glacier. After taking the lift back down we walked out onto the glacier itself. Saw a few people cross-country skiing along the glacier and also saw the Mönch Hütte, the old hut used by mountain climbers as a shelter.
Caught the 2pm train back to Grindelwald via Kleine Scheidegg arriving back in Grindelwald at 4pm.
