Breakfast at 9am, grabbed our day packs and headed for the ruins of Kaiser Wilhelm-Gedächnis Kirche which are as they stood after allied bombing in World War II.
We then went to the Tourist Information Centre to buy metro passes for the day. Caught the metro to Alexanderplatz to go to the top of the Fernsehturm. From the top of the tower we had great views over the city.
Had lunch at Subway in Alexanderplatz then caught metro to Französicher Straße to walk down Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate. We took some pictures and video before continuing on to the Reichstag.
Queued to go to the top of the glass dome but the line was enormous and wasn't moving at all so we decided we'd have to give it a miss and go see some more sights of Berlin. Back on the metro, this time to Warchauer Straße to see the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, known as the Eastside Gallery due to all the graffiti and artwork on the wall. Some more photos and video before getting back on the metro and heading for Potsdamer Platz in search of the site of Hitler's
Bunker.
Looked for a while before deciding the new monument to Jews murdered in Europe was on the site of the bunker. We caught the metro back to the hotel and used the internet to email home and read up on the news from back home.
Caught the metro to Wittenburgplatz to see KaDeWe department store and to find something for dinner. Ended up eating in the Wintergarden Restaurant on the top floor of KaDeWe. A self-service restaurant with lots of variety and reasonably priced. Caught the metro back to the hotel and rested before going to sleep at 10.30pm.
