We arrive at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris at 2.50pm, passed through customs and boarded our minibus to our hotel. The trip took about 45 minutes and was highlighted with a trip around the Arc de Triomphe and the chaotic traffic conditions!
We arrived at our hotel, Hotel Rochambeau, only to find they had no record of our reservation. (We were later to find out this is a common ploy by hotels in Paris when they overbook!). The lady at reception found us a room in a nearby hotel, Comfort-St.Augustin, for the night and assured us a room would be available at the hotel for our remaining 3 nights.
We walked around the corner to Comfort-St.Augustin and checked in. This hotel had the tiniest rooms I have ever seen, barely enough room for the bed let alone us! We went for a walk to look for some dinner at 5.30pm. Lots of restaurants but not many with english translations so we had no idea what the food was. Finally found a Chinese restaurant with english menu and an english speaking waitress.
We went back to our room then for a walk to the Champs Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe. Walked along the Champs Élysées then underground to the Arc de Triomphe to watch the traffic chaos and see the illuminated Arc and Champs Élysées before returning to our hotel for a rest.
