Got to Jaipur after a six hour bus journey, the driver beeped his horn nearly all the way their, thank goodness for our mp3 players!
We had heard that Jaipur was bad for touts and hassle-we weren't expecting it straight away...I (Ellie) was looking out the window of the bus when we pulled up to the bus station, there were a few men standing in the middle of the road, they spotted me and then all started to sprint after the bus and bang on the side! When we got off the bus we were swarmed by men telling us to stay at their hotel, go in their rickshaw etc! We went over to a prepaid autorickshaw stand and told them where we wanted to go and got in a rickshaw, there were 2 men in the front, the one that wasnt driving started to show us a book that other tourists had supposedly written in saying what a good guide he was, we think he was distracting us because the cheeky sods had taken us to a different hotel. When we said this they took us to the right one and of course wanted more money for it, they then told us the place we were staying in is really bad. We are starting tonotice their tricks, its all a learning experience!
We decided to go on a government tourist tour of Jaipur, which was one quid each, we had a guide and there were other Indians on the tour so we knew we wouldnt get taken to any shops where they force you to buy stuff. The guide was really funny. We went to Jantar Mantar, which is a oad of sculptures built by one maN back in 1728, he was really into his astrology and made loads of sculptures, he made a sundial that is accurate to 2 seconds - it was amazing to think how he made it! We wnet to the city palace and looked round museum. THen went to Amber fort, which was just outside of Jaipur, its up asteep hill the views were amazing and there was one part that was decorated in gorgous stones annd pieces of mirror- very nice!
We were a bit naughty and had dinner in a revolving resturant that overlooked the city, it was a bit above budget but worth it!
We are going on a nother bus journey to Pushkar tmoz!
Poos still solid!!!
