Well arriving in the USA after chilled out Rarotonga was a big shock to the system. After a 9 hour flight we landed in LA airport and had to have finger prints taken, an aggressive woman was barking at us to fill in our forms properly and then Kam was taken away and interrogated for ages, loads of stupid questions and suspicious looks. He was eventually released and then we had to go and find American Airlines to get our internal flight to San Fran, that was a load of hassle and more rude barking people. Kam got pulled aside once again (he doesnt look that dodgy?) and had his bag rifled through and swabs taken inside the bag, it was really over the top. Eventually we did get on a flight and when we landed in San Fran we got an airport shuttle with the most horrible man in the world, he didnt know where our hostel was (we didnt have a clue) and he was just and a***hole and expected tipping when he eventually got us there to our hostel. We checked into our room and then found out we hadn't go the room we booked on the internet and the shared toilet outside our room was overflowing.......as you can guess our first day in America was a bit awful!!
Luckily it did get a bit better! We are on complete wind down time now from nearly a year of travelling and so we took it really easy for the whole week, we had managed to save a little bit of money so we could get some new clothes. We went round all the massive shops like bloomingdales and macys, we went in a massive shopping mall with circular escalators. We maybe spent a little bit too much money oooops! We also had our haircut which was a luxury especially for me as I havent had it done for over a year! We did do a bit of sighseeing too, we went down to Fishermans Wharf on the cable car, San Fran is so hilly its quite fun going down the hills on them, we saw Pier 39 and had lunch down there. We got scared by a man hiding behind a bush (the famous bush man!) and we went on a visit to Alcatraz, we got the boat over there and then got an audio tour around the prison, we both agreed it was really good and interesting and you got a great view of the city and the golden gate bridge from there.
We've eaten way too much since we've been here too.....its so cheap to eat out so thats what we've done everyday! The best thing we did was go to the top floor at macys and go to the cheesecake factory where they had the most amazing selection of cheesecakes....we chose really rich chocolatey ones which we both couldn't finish!
So that was our time in San Fran, we were here for just over a week and it went really really quickly, just like our year away :-(
So thats it for our travels so far :-( we return home on Saturday 15th March. We have had such an amazing time and if we could do it all again we would right now! We have seen some amazing things and will have a lifetime of memories from it all. Not sure if we are really ready to come back, it only feels like we just got started......................
Anyway thanks for reading our blogs...hopefully pics will be up in the next few days, someone else has to go travelling now so we can read your blogs!!
Next stop ENGLAND :-(
