We arrived in Hospet alot earlier than we expected on the overnight bus from Hyderabad. We got an autorickshaw to take us to Hampi.
The drive there was lovely, it was early morning so it was nice and cool, there were big palm trees, sugarcane fields and paddy fields-lovely. When we got to Hampi we checked out some rooms and settled on one, the boy who was in charge looked like the artful dodger from Oliver! We had to sign in at the local police station, Hampi is surrounded by ruins of a big Hindu empire and its easy to get lost so we gladly signed in!Â
We decided to get ourselves a guide because its so big, and went on a walking sunset tour. We were so amazed by Hampi. There are massive boulders strewn all around, as far as you can see there a hills covered in these boulders. In between these boulders are the remains of temples and other buildings. Our guide took us down to the remains of an old market, then we walked round to a lovely river that flowed in between all these big rocks. The sun was setting at this point and it was so pretty. We climbed up a hill overlooking the main temple and got some good sunset pics! It was so refreshing to be there after horrible Hyderabad!
The next day we were awoken by an extremely loud band consisting of two big drums, a trumpet and a clarinet. They sounded like they had been on the beer all night!!! We went out onto the street and found out that there are wedding celebrations going on, we can hear another band in the distance and we think there was one for the bride to be's house and one for the groom!Â
We decided to explore more of the ruins in Hampi and had to get an autorickshaw for this because they are quite spread out, we went out in the middle of the day and it was so so hot, we did see some good sights though. We went back into Hampi and went up the hill to watch the sunset again. When we went back to our room the artful dodger asked me if I wanted any Henna done on my hands, I think it may have been his sister - she came in our room and decorated my hand, I was sitting cross legged and suddenly got painful pins and needles in my foot. I started to whack my foot to try and get the circulation going again and tried to explain to the lady what was wrong. I don't think she understood because she immediately started to decorate my foot aswell!!!
We really like Hampi, it was fascinating and very peaceful! Next stop is Goa!! Â
