Spoke to Laura for the first time in months, nice to speak to someone familiar, I've been pretty terrible with keeping in contact with people but it's expensive and slow to use the internet or phone! Considering it was Christmas day it really didn't feel like it. Knowing that everyone at home was knee-deep in snow, I wasn't too fussed because I was in scorching 40-degree heat. Saying that, it was the worst Christmas day ever and I wished for the first time I was at home. In the morning, I set up a BBQ, cleared a cess pit of broken concrete (which thankfully for us was empty and unused in ages), and carried crates of beer down to the beach hut ahead of potential bar service in the evening. It was a gruelling 200-step walk back up the steps everytime we returned for the beers!
At lunch, the folks came in their masses which meant we were going full throttle until 5pm when we eventually ate our lunch. We were not very happy bunnies and this certainly wasn't what we thought we would be doing on Christmas Day.
Had about 20 minutes in the glorious sunshine all day because we had worked about 12 hours whilst watching everyone drinking, in the pool, down the beach and having fun. A bit sad really!
The food however was good and we filled up. Travelli (fish), steak and burewurs (South African sausage) was top notch.
The evening consisted of cleaning, severe washing-up and serving people more and more drinks. The only plus was we went for a night snorkel with a torch. We only saw big sea slugs, a crab with a big sponge or something on its back, an orange moray eel and plankton which was fluorescent in the dark. It's really cool to see when you splash about under the surface.
Decided I would try whiskey on the rocks, rum, some fruity brandy and other booze before getting a dodgy tummy. Spoilt myself with a banoffee pudding. Worst Christmas ever….
