COOGEE!
Hi guys, I will once again start this by apologizing. In the previous entry I told you there's over 2000 students at the University of Sydney. Well, yeah, there is over 2000. Way over. Last year's enrolments got up to 46 000 and I found out that there's more than 3000 professors alone teaching in the Uni.
The weekend went by real fast. Miku and I made friends with an American guy named Rob and his Canadian girlfriend. The couple happens to live right next door. Turned out that Rob was very much into basketball, had already bought a ball and also knew a nice street court nearby! Perfect. We went there on Friday and luckily found some local people to play with. I must say it all turned out to be a fairly competitive and tough 3on3. Don't get me wrong, emotions were not running as high as on the legendary blue court but it was still intense. It was also nice to do some sports for a change.
After some more apartment inspections, putting up with constant rain, playing pool with the local hillbillies at a nearby bar and getting hammered with random people from all over Australia, it was finally time to get to a beach. The weather was finally nice today and so we decided to hop into a bus and travel to the nearest beach. We were debating between the famous Bondi and Coogee, but as Coogee was more accessible for us this time, it became our choice.
Coogee beach is located near a suburb called Randwick, where I was initially supposed to move to. Now it is approximately 35 minutes away by bus. It was an extremely nice beach. Although a bit crowded, you could still easily find a nice spot and relax. This time I was smarter than in Cannes where I spent five hours at a beach without any sunscreen and had to face some painful consequences. In Australia, where the ozone layer is very thin, you are recommended to use sunscreen with at least 30+ protection, so that's exactly what I did and it seemed to work.
You couldn't really swim properly at Coogee because of the high waves. Instead, it was fun to catch one and slide with it. There were lots of people having fun with their body boards and seeing that I wanna try that too. The highlight of today's beach trip came right after we got out…I had my first McDonald's meal in Australia!!! It tasted and felt good. Almost as good as the cheeseburgers back in Varisto. Sunday's are always dedicated to the golden arches. I will hold on to that tradition no matter where I'm at.
Tomorrow's the big day! We're going to go sign the lease, pay our bonds and inspect our new homes thoroughly. Then we're all set to move in. The classes don't start until the 2nd of March so we will have next week to settle in and buy kitchenware, sheets, maybe some furniture and whatnot. I have to say I'm really stoked to get out of this motel and have something of my own finally. We are also planning on having a grill party on the rooftop this upcoming Thursday!
I will post some pics of my new home shortly and keep you informed on the proceedings! Check out the latest pictures from Coogee and stay in touch guys!
PS. I have flights booked for Melbourne next weekend. I will go there to see a good German friend of mine who happens to work there. Looking forward…
