14/9/17 Makrygialos with stops at Kalou Choriou & Kalamafkas
After the usual breakfast and snorkel we pack our cases as today we head off to the south east coast, Makrygialos, leaving The Stonehouse. Maybe one year we will return, I would like to think so.
We head inland up into the central mountains; the views are just out of this world. First stop is Kalou Choriou to a church and then stop at Kalamafkas where climbing stairs into the hillside a tiny church in a cave is discovered. The drive takes us to amazing views of the south coastline as we pass through Anatoli. Today felt hotter and what was strange about this drive was the higher we climbed into the mountains the hotter it became. When we parked up to stroll around Anatoli the heat was suffocating. It's a small village, half deserted, half lived in by locals and holiday homes/rentals. It was very pretty and the houses that had been restored were very well done.
We continue on to the south coast passing hundreds of greenhouses plastering the coastline white and the hills as we drive near to Lerapetta . This area is very much non-touristy with the greenhouses dominating growing our wonderful fruit we enjoy.
We reach Makrygialos arriving around 13:30.
Accommodation: - Cybele Apartments cheapest of all around 160 euros from memory for 4 nights. But it didn't disappoint. It was well equipped with separate bedroom, very comfy bed. Living area with table and chairs and full kitchen. The hostess was very accommodating, the small gardens were beautiful.
Unpacked, headed to the beach 5 mins walk from our apartments. In the evening we walked into the village, small front side tavernas and bars touting for your custom. We settled for the one with the comfiest seats for our meal and then further on to Sunset bar. Here we talked to the English owner and what life was like in the out of season months. She reaffirmed that the winter was very very wet. So, our discussions were "then when we retire maybe not a whole year but a few months from March through to July!
