Our Travels
After breakfast we got most of Julie's packing done apart from the last few bits. We then drove into Central, parked and walked in the direction of the Mid Levels escalator. We were amazed to see so little traffic around in fact we have never seen Central so empty! We took Julie on the long, steep escalator all the way up from Central to Mid Levels but she didn't seem all that impressed! She did complain bitterly though, about the steepness of the hills as we walked back down!
We found a Pacific Coffee with a free table and settled down to drinks and cakes. Julie chose a creation called a Cranberry Pillow. However, she announced firmly that it was all dough and a case of hunt the cranberry so, Pacific Coffee beware. Your school report says 'must do better!'
Back in Happy Valley it was time to go down and find something to eat. We stopped in at The Jockey and we all had fish and chips which definitely set us up for the rest of the day, and probably tomorrow as well.
Time was running out far too quickly and it was time to finish packing and think about setting off for the airport. Julie's Hong Kong adventure was almost at an end. We were just about to leave the apartment when we heard a loud, rumbling sound like low flying aircraft. We had no idea what it was and it was really quite frightening. We eventually realised that what we were hearing was the sound of fireworks. The New Year firework display was in full swing and we hadn't realised! As we drove towards the airport we could see the fireworks over the harbour. It was a beautiful display and Julie said that it was Hong Kong giving her a wonderful send-off.
At the airport, before she went through, we asked Julie what were her most memorable moments of her visit. She told us that they were the races, the parrot and tasting haggis for the first time. So now you know!
Goodbye Julie! We are glad that you had a good time. It has been absolutely wonderful having you here with us and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
