Our Travels
After a leisurely morning at home we drove into Central, parked the car in the IFC building and walked across the walkways to the outlying ferry terminals. Luckily we only had about 15 minutes to wait before the departure time of the ferry which would take us to Cheung Chau. We bought Deluxe Class tickets which meant we could go upstairs and, even better, go and sit outside at the back of the boat.
It was such a beautiful, sunny day which was a real change after some of the weather we have been having lately. There was no need for any of the jumpers and jackets we had brought with us. We did need the sunscreen though, and luckily we had brought that with us too! We had a lovely journey through the harbour, basking in the sunshine, picking out all the different buildings on the shore and watching the many types of boats going by in all directions.
When we arrived in Cheung Chau it was very busy with crowds of people bustling along the water front. There are no cars allowed on the island, but plenty of delivery carts and bicycles which can be just as dangerous! We took our lives in our hands and wandered along the front looking at all the colourful little shops, stalls and restaurants. After trailing round the whole of Happy Valley yesterday looking for hairbands for Julie with no luck, we were delighted to find that the very first stall we stopped at stocked hairbands in abundance. Julie bought two packets and was very pleased with her purchase.
As we walked along we examined the menus at all the restaurants we passed. There are many fish restaurants to choose from but Julie had decided that she wanted spring rolls and a garlic naan. Unfortunately none of the restaurants we checked were serving that! We found one at last, this is Hong Kong after all, where anything is possible and Julie tucked into her lunch of a huge plate of spring rolls and the biggest garlic naan we have ever seen. She ate the lot!!
After that it was time for a little post lunch snooze on the ferry back to Central and the drive back to Happy Valley. Julie was happy to get back for another evening of DVDs and the BBC entertainment channel. It's great to be on holiday!
