Our Travels
Today we decided that we would visit the Wetland Park. We had heard good things about it but none of us had ever been there before. It was a 50 minute drive out into the New Territories, through several tunnels and across some amazing bridges along the way. It is some time since Amanda and Simon have been over this way and they were quite amazed to see just how many more high rise (40 and 50 storey) blocks of flats have mushroomed in new towns we haven't seen before.
We finally reached the Wetland Park without getting lost at all which shows that Amanda's navigating skills must be pretty good really! We parked, paid and went in, and from the moment of arrival we were all hugely impressed by the time, effort and expense which has gone into setting up such a beautiful, interesting and informative facility.
We spent two or three hours wandering round the guided walkways, across the rickety bridge through the mangroves, hiding in different hides watching the birds through telescopes and generally having a good time. We saw many different water birds but we especially remember the beautiful grey herons, We also saw several bats sleeping in the day time and Pui Pui the famous saltwater crocodile.
We finished by having a drink in the cafe before making our way back to Happy Valley after a lovely afternoon out.
