Our Travels
After her usual breakfast of Weetabix followed by crumpets, .... and then a mince pie, Julie was ready to face the day.
We drove into Central and went to Seasons Fitness Gym where Julie waited in the lounge and read her book while Mum did her exercise. Afterwards Simon met us and we all strolled over to Hong Kong Park, just a few minutes walk away. This beautiful park is built on the side of a hill which means that there are lots of steps in every direction and what goes down must definitely go up again so Julie got her exercise after all! Julie said that she gets quite enough exercise going up and down the stairs to the flat without needing any more!
We enjoyed a lovely walk through the park and went into the aviary. It is very large and all the birds fly around free inside. Julie was fascinated by all the beautiful birds, but a little nervous of standing near the edge of the walkway as she doesn't like heights. However, when she held firmly to the rail she was fine.
Afterwards we walked past the pond where a group of terrapins were all trying to climb out onto the same rock. Julie was fascinated to watch them vying for space. They looked like a group of old men getting together for a chat!
There is also a Tea Museum within the park and we went in and had a look round. Museums are not Julie's favourite thing! However, she was very good and enjoyed looking at some of the very strange teapots on display. Mum and Simon were also very good and didn't stay too long!
We left the park and walked up Garden Road to The Helena May, a beautiful historic building which houses the famous ladies' club to which Mum has belonged since 1990. Julie remembers the place very well from when she used to visit all those years ago. She especially liked using the library and sitting in the lounge afterwards to read her book and eat delicious egg mayonnaise sandwiches. She noticed how much the club has changed as they now have a smart dining room in the old main lounge. We all enjoyed a delicious lunch and Julie chose egg mayonnaise sandwiches in memory of old times. These were even better as they came with chips!!
Back in Happy Valley Julie had another relaxing evening watching DVDs and lived up to her name of Julie Tann MP!!
