Our Travels
Julie had quite a long lie in and we all spent a very leisurely morning. After lunch Julie decided that she needed to buy some more hair elastics so we walked down into Happy Valley so that she could buy some. Well,we tried Park N Shop and no luck. We tried Mannings, Watsons, Japan Home store, the Chinese Home store and many more. In fact we trudged the length and breadth of Happy Valley trying each and every shop which might possibly stock hair elastics but to no avail. It would appear that Hong Kong ladies do no use hair elastics, or if they do they probably have to import them specially from overseas. They certainly cannot purchase them locally!!
We returned home and got ourselves ready to go out for the evening. This took some time as Simon had to squeeze himself into his kilt and all the accompanying regalia. Very smart he looked too! Naturally Julie and Mum looked very well turned out as well.
We arrived at the FCC at 6.30 pm, ready to enjoy their annual Burn's Supper. Everyone was beautifully done up in kilts and other Scots dress and it was a wonderful sight to see. We thought that Julie might not like the traditional Scottish food, but to our surprise she tried everything and, what's more, she liked it! It was great to see her tucking into kedgeree and then to a good helping of haggis. We had wondered whether or not Julie would enjoy the evening based as it was on the poetry of Robbie Burns which can be difficult for the best of us English folk to understand. However, we were delighted to see that Julie really enjoyed the evening. She loved the piper and was fascinated by the poetry and by the performance of that old favourite Tam O Shanter. She understood the mood if not the words and her enjoyment was lovely to see. It was a long evening but to her credit she did not resort to looking at her book once even though she knew we wouldn't mind.
