Our Travels
Julie's flight arrived on time and Mum and Simon were there to meet her. In no time at all they were in the car and on their way back to Happy Valley. The weather was overcast but clear and Julie was impressed by the amazing bridges and the huge container port she saw along the way.
On arrival in Happy Valley Julie had to climb more than a hundred stairs before reaching the apartment but agree that it was well worth it once she got there and she was very pleased to see Mum and Simon's flat at last. She liked her bedroom and was soon unpacked and settled in the lounge having a cup of tea and a mince pie. Julie is very fond of mince pies and within a couple of days we had re-named her Julie Tann MP. ... and it doesn't stand for Member of Parliament!!
As it was A Wednesday evening we decided to go down to see the horse racing at Happy Valley race track, just a 10 minute walk away. It was quite exciting to go in through the turnstyles, only $10!! It was quite crowded and just as we entered we heard the bell as a race started and then the thunder of hooves passing close by.
Julie had a lovely time, even though the rain came down. Luckily we had brought the umbrellas! She was very pleased to see a McDonald's outlet and enjoyed a special race day chicken burger. Julie really loved seeing the horses, watching them being led into the starting gates and then standing at the rails seeing them race by. We wandered over to the parade ring and Julie loved watching the horses being led round, at first by themselves and then with their jockeys on board. What a marvellous sight!
