Left Edisto this morning for the very long trek to our next stop, Skyland Resort in Shenandoah National Park.
Made our way there starting with the sun rising over the marshes of South Carolina, around Charleston, continued on by South of the Border into North Carolina passing cotton fields and into some low mountains before entering Virginia. On through the state passing along the rolling hills with their beautiful cattle and horse farms, as well as some wineries and through the charming town of Gordonsville.
Began our ascent in the Shenandoah Mountains, arriving at the national park. Headed north on Skyline Drive, stopping at various vistas to take in the view. Fortunately for us the weather had cleared (experienced some storms on the way), and we were treated to some spectacular scenery. Blue skies, a few clouds, the start of leaves turning and the foliage of the mountains beginning their autumn change greeted us at every turn.
Got to the lodge and checked in. Great view. Tired from all the traveling, needed to crash and get some food. Walked up the trail from our room, and decided to eat in the tavern. Had a nice meal, and ringside seats for the Shenandoah Cloggers. They performed for an hour, and were quite good.
Off to bed as we are hoping for a hike, and perhaps a horseback ride tomorrow.
