Well, it is time to leave this beautiful and diverse state of Colorado. Spent our last night in Estes Park, and off we went to our next stop, Kearney, Nebraska.
Stopped at Cinnamon Bakery for some treats, and proceeded to leave town and came upon a herd of elk right in a condo compound along the road. It was lead by a buck with a huge rack! Amazing.
Continued out of town and through the mountains along the prettiest route . The beautiful stream weaved in and out of both sides of the road, and eventually through some magnificent rock formations. Exited the mountain, and just like that found us in the high plain. It’s wild!
Eastward on we went through the grasslands of the plains. Lots of cattle, in fact there was a huge corral with what had to be thousands of cattle in it.
Made it into Nebraska, and back to the central time zone. On to route 80 which is where our next stop was located. Stopped at The Great Platt River Road Archway.
This is an attraction that includes a museum that stretches over the top of Route 80! It is devoted to the journey of the emigrants through the different trails that pass through the Platt River Area. It also includes in its story the development and history of the settlers, Native Americans, and history of travel all the way through the development of the interstate and it’s effects. Really quite interesting and well done. Ended with a view looking done over the traffic as it passed under the archway. Crazy!
Took a little walk around in the historic sites nearby, crossing over the pedestrian bridge of the Platt River. Then it was off to the hotel, and the Phillies.
Watched the unfortunate ending of the game at a local brewery by the hotel. Then it was off to the hotel and eventually bed. Tomorrow brings the drive to Pella, Iowa.
