Began our last morning in New Bern before making the long journey to Asheville.
As we were leaving the resort, noticed one of the New Bern bears. The bear is the symbol of New Bern. Apparently some of the first settlers saw a bear as their first wide life. Also New Bern is named after Bern, Switzerland, and bern is is the Swiss word for bear. Over 50 bear statues made of fiber glass and painted to reflect the property they are located on can be found throughout the town and surrounding area, in celebration of the city's 300th anniversary in 2010.
Made the long journey leaving the rivers and marshes and headed up into the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, arriving at the Hillside Bed and Breakfast in time for wine and refreshments on their lovely front porch. We also met two lovely couples from Orange County, California who flew in and are touring the East.
Ubered downtown to one of the restaurants recommended by our host. It was a French place called Bouchon, and it was delicious. Best chocolate mousse ever!
Off to bed as we have a big day tomorrow. Touring the Biltmore, then downtown for a bit, and hopefully some music.
