Syney Harbour Bridge Climb
Woke up a bit apprehensive but still excited. Climb was booked for 12.15pm so we slowly made our way over to the bridge climb centre. Once we had been breathalysed we had to get into a snazzy blue and grey boiler suit with just our underwear underneath! We were kitted up with our harnesses, rainjacket, caps and radio. Once we were all decked out we had to try the mesh simulator. This was to get us used to the height and walking across mesh walkways. It was good to get used to using the harness and climbing the ladders but it was only 10metres high!!!
Ben got to go infront because he was the only one scared of heights. We were then ready to go! We started walking along, everything was fine, enjoying the view even though we werent even halfway up. The mesh walkway came next and this is where Ben got slightly worried. Everyone was looking around them and down at the floor while our guide explained how the bridge was held in place, Ben just looked stright ahead!! Funny but I did feel sorry for him.
The ladders up to the arch of the bridge were really steep and really tiring. We climbed up the Eastern arch of the bridge and the view was fantastic, we could see for miles!!! Had loads of photos taken up there, group ones and ones of just me and Ben, which all turned out great. We couldnt take up our own cameras as no dangling objects are allowed! We had fun waving at all the people on the ferries below. The climb down was fun, my knees were quivering from all the steps. Scott our leader decided to tell us how the people died whilst building the bridge. Good job he didnt do it before we started!!! He also told us that the bridge is so strong that it could hold the Eiffel Tower.
All-in-all it was a fab experience, even though I think Ben was glad to get down in the end. If we could do it again we would probably do the night climb as the view would be totally different.
