We decided after a monster hangover and a busy Australia Day that we needed a change in scenery for a few days and picked 3 days 'holiday' in the Blue Mountains. Checked into "Flying Fox' hostel and decided to go exploring straight away. We had a 3 day pass on the hopon hopoff bus so jumped straight on. Got off at the Katoomba Cascades and started our walk in the Jamison Valley. Saw some beautiful views across the valley and some nice waterfalls. Walk was quite hard as it was soooo hot! Next stop was Echo Point, best views of the 3 Sisters and a 280 degree panoramic view of the area. Funniest thing of the day was when we were walking through a really wooded area. Ben asked me what was the point of all the "brillo pads?" I dint have a clue what he was on about as I couldnt see any brillo pads anywhere. He then went on to say that there was no point putting brillo pads there because blind people couldnt see the trees so what was the point in explaining all about them. It was only then that I realised that he was talking about the Braille pads placed under all the trees explaining all about them!!- Silly boy!!!
Got some great pics. It had been a long day because of the travelling so we called it a day and promised to start early the next morning.... or so we'd hoped.
Next day we went to the scenic railway, steepest in the world at a 52 degree angle down the cliff face. Plan was to use that to get to the valley and then do an 8km walk and get the cable car back up. That was until disaster struck!!! As I got off the train I caught my foot and dropped my flipflop. 100metres into the valley below!! Couldnt believe it. Had to beg the driver to give us a free lift back, walk thru the village with 1 shoe on then go back to the hostel and get new shoes!!! Plans soon had to change!!!! We ended up having a great day anyway which included the most beautiful hot chocolate ever! Went to a place called honeymoon lookout and ate our picnic overlooking the Leura Cascades which were beautiful. Crossed a high bridge across to one of the 3 sisters and bought a 'double decker' bar from the British Lolly Shop!
Had a boring night reading as we were so tired. Caught the train back to Sydney the next day exhausted but glad we'd had a fantastic weekend!
