We're eventually in a city again!! We arrived midday short journey from Noosa. We booked into Tinbilly's hostel which was only 2 minute walk from the transit centre. We were a little tired and as we had booked a week we decided to have a quiet day and just take a walk to get food and watch TV in the communal area. The next day was New Years Eve and we thought it was going to be quite quiet with everyone heading down to Sydney. We met up with Sam our friend from Newcastle around 8pm in Tinbilly's bar and started to have a few drinks and sambuca's.....there was 2 sets of fireworks, the first was at 9pm and we headed down to Southbank and stood on the bridge and watched the fireworks go off they were pretty cool..probably knowhere near as good as Sydney but still impressive. We went back to Sams hostel and got totally drunk and ended up singing Karaoke twice it didnt sound great I don't think but Sam was a virgin on stage so we did it for him!! We seen the midnight fireworks from the hostel and they were great. The night was much better than we thought it would be and Brisbane was much busier with backpackers than we thought!! The next few days after getting over our hangovers we did all the sightseeing along the river and did some shopping. Brisbane isn't a big city but it's very nicely put together. We also did a bit of exercise as there was a nice running trail along Southbank river leading into the Botanical Gardens. The funniest time of the week was a few days into 2007 me & Ria crossed the road on a 'Red Man' with no cars coming we didn't think anything of it until a policeman pulled us over and asked 'do you know what you just did?' we replied 'No' and basically he started writing out tickets and taking our details...he fined us $30 each for Jay-walking cheeky sod I could have ripped his throat out, He was so smug about it to!! And you know me and Ria we didn't have much of a temper.....I had a go back at him but it was no good!! Looking back it's really funny...apart from having to pay!! Brisbane was a nice week probably spent 3 days too long there as theres not a whole lot of things to do there. Our dorm was pretty entertaining. 3 Chinese students wouldn't stoping hocking in the morning and spent a hour in the shower each, by day 2 I lost my rag and told them they were disguisting..Ria just hid her head under the cover!! Anyway off to Surfers Paradise next hopefully some nice weather and back to Sunbathingxx
