After Bens recent ear infection he was given the all clear by the doctor to Scuba Dive.
We booked a special deal $99 to snorkel and have a introductory dive aboard the 'Reef Quest". We checked in and started sailing to our first of two dive sights at 9.00am. The boat was great fast speed plenty of space.
Ria was a little nervous as she's never dived so she listened well to the briefing about what to do under the water. We were placed in group 4 with 4 of us to a group so we got to snorkel first which I think helped Ria to relax more. Eventually our number was called so we swam back to the boat we had our wet suit on and the instructor put on out Oxygen Tanks and we sta on the edge of the boat for about 2 minutes waiting....it felt more like 10 minutes I think we were both a little nervous. As soon as we jumped in Ben was very relaxed holding onto a rope about 2 metres down and Ria came straight back up as she couldn't quite grasp the breathing, the instructor quicky reassured her and once she went back down she was brilliant even if she did breathe more heavily than anyone else!! We went through for safety checks and then we kept decending all the way to 15 metres.
The Barrier Reef was beautiful very colourful coral and loads and life down there. We found 'Nemo' and we seen Turtles, Small Sharks, Stingrays & loads of the reef some things just didnt seem real and feeling like fish ourselves was truly awesome. We came back up on a complete high we couldnt believe we had actually dived the 'Great Barrier Reef' one of lifes ambitions completed.
The rest of the day was great we did more snorkelling and enjoyed a tropical lunch before arriving back in cairns at 5.00pm. Fantastic time but no photos sorry!!!!! But the photo above does it justice!!
Off to our next adventure Magnetic Islandxxxx
