Up early yet again- but very excited about the next 3 days. Great Ocean Road here we come! Took us about 2 hours to get to Torquay- the official start to Great Ocean Road. Beach was really nice, busy as it was the weekend. Stopped at a few look outs before sunbathing at Anglesea. The drive was beauitiful, winding clifftop roads with spectacular views. At Airey Inlet we walked to the "Round the Twist' Lighthouse. Next stop was Lorne where we had a really disgusting lunch. The town was nice though, with a typical Aussie style beach where there were lifesaver races on. They are so competitive. Teddys lookout above the town was fantastic once we found it. Our last drive of the day was so scenic. Beautiful views of secluded beaches, winding roads and hills to the right that stretched for miles. Checked into Appollo Bay backpackers in Appollo Bay. Had a double room in a seperate house. It was so homely and the shower was great for a change. Had some food and watched "Along Came Polly" in our 'living room'. Bit eventful as Ben managed to lock us out and there was a really wierd mismatched older couple staying there too. We also sat on the beach and watched the sunset which really helped chill us out after a manic and boiling day.
Back on the road by 9am the next day aftera good nights sleep. First stop- Maits Rest Rainforest boardwalk in the Otways National Park. A great, cool way to start what was going to be a scorcher of a day at 39 degrees. We then drove 12km to Cape Otway lighthouse only to find there was an entry fee of $15 each to get anywhere near it. Had a long drive inland and then back out again till we reached the 12 Apostles which were amazing. Continued to Lord Ard Gorge and the Thundercave and Blowhole which were both pretty impressive too. We continued quickly as the flies were unbearable, even more so than the heat. Got some excellent photos of The Arch, London Bridge, Bay of Martyrs and the Bay of Islands. After finishing the Shipwreck Coast we headed to Warnambool- the end of Great Ocean Road, ready to start our drive inland to the Grampians..... thats a different entry, enjoy it
