Hey guys with Christmas coming up we couldn't feel further away!! We've seen no Christmas trees, no decorations & heard no cheesy holiday music........AWESOME!!
We arrived in Agnes Water a very small town of 100 houses and less people as there mainly holiday home at 10:00am after 10 hours on the overnight bus. Ben managed to sleep most of it and Ria was too hot to sleep as the A/C wasn't working fully. The hostel 'Cool Bananas' more than made up for the tiredness it was lovely!! We settled in took a look around it was so clean and all the people who worked there are so laid back and friendly especially the owner Greg. we checked out the beach later in the afternoon and had a swim as we've finally reached far enough down the coast that we can swim without worrying about Jellyfish!! In the evening we had the $5 hostel meal cooked by 'Binkie' cool dude from Byron Bay and everyone chilled and drank some beers. The town is very quiet and very much a surf town.
In the morning we had a surf lesson. Me & Ria paired up to share a board it was a soft 9ft board it felt huge!! Once we listened and got the technique right we got out onto the waves, Ben went first and caught the first wave he tried it was a amazing feeling to surf into the beach. Ria's go was next and she was a little worried she wouldn't be able to do it, but the instructor was really cool filled her with loads of confidence and next thing Ria's catching a wave and was up on the board like a natural!! We spent the next 2 hours practicing it was cool. We had a drink after and slept pretty well.
The next day Gavin our friend persuaded us to do a scenic flight of Agnes and 1770 and seeing as it was the cheapist flight in Australia we agreed. Bruce the pilot had a beer with us the night before and promised us a fright he didnt disappoint......after we took off he let Ben fly the 4 seater plane over to where we were going to land on the beach that was crazy flying the plane.....just before we landed he decided to do a few nose-dives it was awesome better than any rollercoaster i've ever been on, scared the hell out of us and Bruce just laughed at us and took a little video. We landed on a deserted beach completely empty of people and from above we could see sharks swimming in the waves, as soon as we got out of the plane Ben,Gavin & Bruce ran into the waves and got within a metre of the sharks which happened to be bigger than us luckily there more scared of us than we are of them. Gavin had a turn at flying the plane on the way back and Bruce continued to scare us, after landing and getting back to the Cool Bananas I can genuinely say it was one of the best things we've ever done!!
We were supposed to stay in Cool Bananas for 3 nights but because it was so great we ended up staying 5 nights and they invited us back for Christmas as there doing a special Christmas dinner so we agreed we'd come back. We spent the rest of our week with friends we'd met on the way down the coast and improving our surfing skills. Anyone going to Oz don't miss Agnes its amazing and so chilled out we loved it!! Next stop Fraser Island bring it ON!!!
