Day 64. Today we are doing a day trip north to Quobba Station and the Blowholes with Ross and Robyn. Arrived late morning just before the high tide at the Blowholes which were blowing full force with the incoming swell, such a noise, one rising over 20 metres. Beautiful rugged coastline with sharp brown coral cliffs as far as we could see up the coast. It was along this coast that German sailors came ashore in their lifeboats from the sinking battleship 'Kormoran' following its 1941 sea battle with HMAS 'Sydney'. We stopped at a nearby beach and sanctuary to see beautiful coral and lots of colourful fish and a small reef shark swimming beneath us. Further up the coast we drove briefly into Quobba Station for a look and the 'Sydney' memorial. Picnic lunch on the nearby rocks while watching many whales moving south and blowing off. Dropped into Bumbaks plantation on the way home to buy fruit preserves and ice creams. Back at the van we got ready for Ross' birthday celebrations - he turns a Big 70 today - so out we go to dinner at the old Gascoyne Hotel in Carnarvon. Delicious seafood and steak served by very attentive staff made our evening very special. Drove 170km today, cloudy with some spots of rain, 27 degrees.
