We started the day with a short walk through Potter's Field Park to Tower Bridge. After crossing the bridge we went to the nearby Tower of London which is pretty famous as the place Henry VIIIth beheaded some of his unfortunate wives. We spent a couple hours at the tower which is a large, interesting place steeped in history. On our way out we were stopped as the path had been cordoned off because at 1pm there was a 62 gun salute for the anniversary of the Queens Coronation. We were one of the first there so were at the front to watch it. Just luck! Finding lunch after was a bit of a mission but finally found a cafe that sold a mix of food to our liking. From there we went the The Monument (erected in memory of the deceased of the Great Fire Of London), St Paul's Cathedral and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The tour of London Bridge and the Tombs were next on the agenda. This tour was a bit like a ghost train on foot! London Bridge has fallen down and burnt down numerous times in history with a large loss of life and this was the theme. It is an interesting way to learn the history as the tour is very interactive. The last 10 minutes reenacted the bridges demise. It wasn't suitable for people with claustrophobia or heart conditions! Luckily we held onto the person in front of us as it was pitch black with strobe lights and "dead people" leaping out at us. It was a fun experience. Then we went to the Tower Bridge museum and the Engine Room. The Engine Room is a display of the old engines used to raise and lower the bridge before it was modernized. We were lucky enough to see the bridge open to allow a ship to pass.
