We had heard about a valley where there were waterfalls inside a mountain accessible by a path and a train which would be on the way from Murren to Bern. As we had until 1pm to get to Bern we decided to break our journey and see the waterfalls. The main station was at Luterburren and the falls were about an hours walk away at Trümmelbach. We woke this morning to magnificent views of the mountains that had been covered in cloud the day before. The dun was shining. We started the day with breakfast at our guest house. It was a good way to start the day. Our plan for today was to hike for about 2 1/5 hours to a place called Birg which is about 2/3 of the way up a mountain called Schilthorn. We had an early start today. We caught the tram into Bern at 8 ready to catch the train to Murren in the mountains. We had to catch a variety of trains and cable cars to reach our final destination as it is high up in the Swiss mountains where there are no cars as its to steep to get them up. It was pouring again today. Any plans of walking were dashed. We caught the tram into Bern and walked along the longest shopping street in Europe. A couple of kms long. And all under cover which was great! At the far end we reached the Bear put where there are 5 bears roaming loose. Back in history they were used to protect Bern from invaders but now they have a very nice enclosure along the river. After lunch we went back to Chris and Di's apartment for a cuppa....

We have arrived at our apartment in Bern. Unfortunately our apartments are opposite sides of the city but on the same tram route. We will miss the TDF going through here by one day. :( There is a supermarket right next door which is convenient. The weather forecast is better for tomorrow so it will be good for sightseeing.
