Today we took the train from Fort William to Edinburgh. We have been lucky that the days we needed to travel didn't coincide with two train strikes in Scotland. It was a long day of traveling as the train route was quite circuitous to get to Edinburgh. We had pre booked our seats on the train so we were able to travel together. It's amazing how full the trains have been in all of the U.K. We caught a taxi to our accommodation (a guest house) in Edinburgg. When we arrived the owner came out with a worried look on his face and asked if we had a reservation and for how many. Our fears were confirmed when he told us he only had one room available. They had only recently taken over the guest house and we're dealing with teething problems. They found a room for us at a friends hotel. Very lucky as everywhere was full. It was pretty sub standard but at least a bed I suppose. Chris and Di had a nice room in the original guest house. They said we could come back to the guest house in the morning for breakfast. After we had settled in we went for a walk. We went up to a nearby hill called Arthur's Seat. It looked a lot harder than it turned out to be. Lovely views of Edinburgh from the top. By now it was about 9:30pm and hunger was setting in. We found a lovely Indian restaurant. The food was really good. Not cheap, but good value. We walked the couple of miles back to our guest houses. Tomorrow we will go to Edinburgh Castle.
