Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We drove to Oyster Stacks which is one of the designated snorkelling areas. There isn't much sand and rocks line the banks with waves breaking upon them. It is also recommended to only snorkel at high tide which we did. The snorkelling was great here. There was a fair current pulling south which was hard to swim against. Zach tried coming in but was a bit too scared so just clung to me and tried to see the fish from above.
We then drove to Lakeside which is much more suitable for kids. We had lunch here and couldn’t believe in a fully booked national park we would be here alone. The lake was perfect for the boys and after lunch it was a 500m walk up the beach to the designated snorkelling area. I went for a snorkel but it was a bit freaky being out alone. There's a sense of safety with others around even though they say the reef sharks are more afraid of people then we are of them. It was different to Oyster Stacks in that it was deeper and further out from shore and the waves were bigger. But I did see some fish that I didn’t see at the last site.
