Well its raining, again! the monsoon is really on the go now with bucket loads of rain that starts very quickly. Yesterday we went for job interviews in Andheri (region in Mumbai not too far from hotel) but by the time we got to the second place we were like drowned rats, absolutely soaked to the skin and having waded through the rather mucky water to way above the height of my ankle boots. I swear we left puddles on the floor when we left. (we bought an umbrella!)Talking of drowned rats when sitting in reception at our hotel the evening before last Vincent spotted a rather large rat on the counter, the night porter was unfazed and although he made a pretence of looking for it he didn't really try and just seemed slightly disbelieving - why I don't know as we have decided our hotel is the ultimate dump. Actually Vincent was convinced the rodent was actually the manager of next door - hotel SamRat :)Today I made the girl at the desk send our curtains for laundering - 'slightly barmy British person' her look said, but I insisted, as the window side of the curtains was growing more mould than my Dads favourite cheese left out for that specific purpose :)We also cleaned our room, yes we have cleaners, and they sure do know how to use bleach, but the art of actually using the bleach they pour over everything, every morning, to actually get rid of the dirt seems to be alien. A pack of baby wipes and not very much elbow grease later the room was positively sparkling - well by hotel Singh standards anyway. The interviews are going evenly OK and rubbish, often they wont see us because we are foreigners (although for the English teacher jobs being xenophobic about an English person seems somewhat counterintuitive) Vincent missed out on his ideal job at a posh bar in town called zenzi's (Google it - its actually really nice) because it would have cost too much to employ a foreigner. We have decided that as the aim is to make money to see India not to get a career the best bet is call centres.
