Neil's Round the World Trip!
I was woken up at 9ish by Marie-Renne, she told me I had friends at the door. Sure enough, I staggered to the front door in my pants and there was Jaqueline and her Swiss friend Sandra who was here on a nostalgic visit having stayed with the Camachos 2 months ago.
They invited me into town so I tried to take a shower but it was ice cold so then I had my breakfast of apple sauce rolls and a cup of tea. Jose and Marina left last night to go and see Jose's brother in Santa Cruz as his condition worsened. My head was thumping and I wasn't feeling too great but I accompanied them into the city. We dropped by Melanie's house and she joined us. We got a bus and got off at the bus terminal where I bought my bus ticket to Sucre which leaves at 8.30 in the evening. We then walked through the "La Cancha" market and the smells of the hot food stands together with the nausea I was already experiencing meant I had to run into a restaurant's toilet to be sick. We walked to Cafe Francés and I thought a banana smoothy would line mt stomach and settle things; it didn't. I was in the toilet 3 times spewing!
We said goodbye to Sandra and got a taxi to IC Norte, the huge supermarket. I bought some gifts for the family: Teacher's Scotch Whisky (only 4 quid) After 8 mints, toy games (for the locuitas, Belen and Leah). It's a pity I can't hand the gifts to them as they are in Santa Cruz.
I returned to my house having said goodbye to Melanie and Jaqueline. I went to sleep for a few hours although Melanie came round after an hour with some weird herbal elixir that I was to spray in my face and breathe in. Cheers Mel but it didn't work, I was KO'd until 7pm. Gladys, Marina's best friend was looking after the house as Marie-Renne had left for Santa Cruz. She called me a taxi and I went to the bus station having seen the last minutes of Sweden against T&T; Ebba que pasó?
I lugged my stuff on the bus and sat down in my semi-bed seat however that is a misleading name as it's just a seat that slides a little bit further back. An accountant called Vladimir sat beside me and chatted to me for a few hours before I went to sleep.
The bus drove through dusty towns, misty altiplano moors and eventually we arrived in Sucre around 6.30am. I saw the signs for the nearby HI Hostel which is reputedly the swankiest hostel in Bolivia. I can see why it has a good reputation, the hostel is in a beautiful building with a garden, cafe and some rooms have cable tvs and jacuzzis.
I dropped my stuff in my dorm and fell asleep until 10am.
