Neil's Round the World Trip!
I woke up at 10ish and had the best shower for ages. The shower wasn't electric so there was no chance of me being electrocuted unlike the other showers I've had to endure. Also it was hot, really hot! I had forgotten what a real hot shower felt like having had lukewarm showers for a month!
I chatted to an Israeli girl in my room who'd also just arrived from Santa Cruz. I then chilled out on the balcony and listened to a few people in the garden learn Spanish. It was helpful as I could test myself in my head when they asked each other questions. It was a beautiful day and there was a slight cool breeze which was nice.
I walked to the nearby bus station and bought my bus ticket to Uyuni. The bus leaves at 7am tomorrow so I'm going to have to be up around 6ish...great! I hopped on a micro bus and got off in the centre of the city. The main plaza 25 de Mayo is beautiful. There are lots of wonderful, historic colonial buildings painted white. I ambled along the pleasant, quiet streets and reached the Supreme Court of Bolivia. I walked back to the main plaza and had lunch in La Repizza. It was showing the Angola v Portugal match so I watched a bit of football while I waited on my pizza. When I got the bill I put a 100 Boliviano note down, the waiter took it and returned with 6 bolivianos...hmmm where's the other 50 bolivianos. I waited for a few minutes thinking he must be finding a large note however after 5 mintues I asked him where my money was and he started apologising profusely and handed me the note. What a dodgy little scamp...hmm maybe it works with more naive tourists or he's just a forgetful little restaurant owner.
I got a bus back to my hostel which took a while as we sat in busy streets where idigenous people were selling all kinds of meats, empanadas and fruits. I got into my hostel and chatted to an Austrian who invited me to join him in the city. However with my early start tomorrow and my stomach still a bit ropey after my chicha/big last night out in CBBA I decided probably best not. I stayed in and looked over my Spanish before hitting my bed around 11pm.
