Woken up early by someone with a wet bed so while I did the laundry Nick went for a walk to the bakery with Katharine and bought some rolls to make up a packed lunch. We had breakfast and then set off on a day trip exploring the mountains inland from Kiama. The sun was shining and the green rolling hills looked beautiful as we climbed higher into the mountains. First we drove out to Minnamurra Rainforest in the Budderoo National Park and completed a loop walk through the rainforest to the Minnamurra Falls. The walk was quite steep in places but everyone did very well and the falls were well worth the climb. The kids ran all the way back to the visitors centre to explore the gift shop, doing the walk in record time!! Once back in the car we climbed further up the mountain to Carrington Falls. We had a picnic lunch first and then walked to the falls, which was spectacular. The water dropped 50m into a gorge in Kangaroo Valley being the highest waterfall the kids have seen to date and they all went "aahhh" as they caught their first glimpse. Back in the car we drove on through Robertson and stopped at Kangaroo Valley, a beautiful little town nestled in the mountains full of cafes and antique shops. We found the fudge factory, which sold award winning Devonshire teas, so while the kids had an ice cream we shared an awesome scone washed down with a cappuccino and a complimentary slice of chocolate fudge! Back in the car we drove on to Berry and would have stopped to explore the town as it looked beautiful but it was getting late and everyone was tired. Once we got back to Kiama we called into the Blow Hole to see if it was blowing but there was hardly a ripple on the ocean. Back at the van Nick needed some quiet time as the kids had been very boisterous on the drive home after their ice creams, so I took them off to the park for a while and watched the sun set over the ocean. We had pasta for dinner and the kids decided they wanted a shower in the amenity block - not easy compared to the van! We all watched a movie before bed and the small ones fell asleep exhausted after such a lot of exercise today.
