We had a restful night and woke to a beautiful morning at Fraser Range. A quick breakfast of cereal and banana and we were off on our long 600km journey to Eucla today. Our first stop was Balladonia, where back in 1979 the USA Skylab re-entered the earth's atmosphere and showered the area with debris, including a very large piece that was in the nice little museum along with newspaper clipping about the event.
Just after Balladonia, is Australia's Longest Straight Road - the 90 mile track (or 145kms). It certainly was straight and at the end is Caiguna so we stopped at the Blowhole - not a water blowhole, but an air blowhole - it's a large hole in the ground and quite interesting, just off the highway. Thereafter, we dropped into Cocklebiddy for a quick topup of petrol and had lunch at Madura Pass, a great lookout where the plateau goes down to the plains. Finally, we made it to Eucla at 5pm and found a great spot near the edge of the plateau with a great view of the Great Australian Bight from our van. The caravan park is great so we checked out the bar, pool, garden, etc before dinner and enjoyed a wonderful evening.
