Early start this morning so we could visit a couple of tourist spots on a gravel road before our checkout time of 10am. We arrived at the Hilltop Lookout - it was a cool and misty morning, and the view over the Nornalup Inlet and Southern Ocean was very pretty and worth getting up early to see. Next stop was the Giant Tingle Tree with a 1km loop track - a very pleasant walk and a great tree.
We headed east, and just prior to Denmark, turned off to Greens Pool. It is part of the William Bay National Park and has a sandy white beach ringed by large granite boulders that prevent the swell of the Southern Ocean reaching the shoreline. It was beautiful, but the weather was quite cool and windy, so swimming wasn't really an option this morning, although others were jumping in. A short walk from the Greens Pool is Elephant Cove, with the famous elephant rocks (that do truly look like elephants!). It was pretty spectacular and like nothing we've seen on our trip. We met a family from Killarney Heights in Sydney who are on their way to Sydney also, so we may criss-cross with them along the way along with the Prelc's - it's a small world out here too!
We arrived at Albany around 1.30pm and went into town to check it out. We had a nice lunch at The Albany Hotel while watching the Ashes Test in Sydney (sort of wishing we were there too). After checking into the Rose Gardens Holiday Park we took a pleasant walk around Emu Point and visited the bronze statuette of "Sam the Seal" (a local friendly and acrobatic seal tragically slain back in 2006). Mum and Renee went for a quick 2km run along the bike track from Emu Point towards Middleton Beach, while Dad & Eamon played cricket.
During dinner we flicked between 2 movies - The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins - oldies but goodies, and worked out a very busy itinerary for tomorrow!
