Cooler start to today with the first large clouds we have seen in 5 weeks - no rain but. We had bacon & eggs for breakfast and the kids went to the splash park - what a great idea they are, as kids can go and cool off and have fun by themselves! Mum had noticed a mobile hairdresser right near us in the caravan park, so we met Tracey and she did Mum's colour (using Senso's ingredients of course), and also trimmed Eamon's hair - how convenient!
In the afternoon, we drove into Darwin CBD and spent a couple of hours at Crocosaurus Cove. Pretty good value for $80. There was a turtle presentation, reptile displays, an aquarium, big croc feed and presentation, and fishing for crocs which the kids loved as it involved them holding the fishing line with the food for the adolescent crocodiles to jump up at. Also, at various times, adults were doing the cage of death, where they were lowered into the water in a plastic cage to come up close to the crocodiles. It was interesting to watch - not sure I'd ever do it.
We then found the "hold a baby crocodile" area - we all got to meet and hold Fluffy the 14 month old crocodile and the kids had heaps of photos taken with him, and Mum & Dad got a go also. He was so nice and soft - no wonder handbags are made out of their skin! And of course we purchased the photographs!
We were starving after all that feeding, so popped into The Tap on Mitchell for a couple of cleansing ales, and fried food. Then we were off to the Darwin Waterfront Precinct to check out the wave pool - we only had ½ an hour, but it was great fun with the boogie boards and tubes.
It was getting close to sunset, so we headed to Mindil Beach for the famous sunset and Thursday night markets. Hundreds of people were there - the markets were nothing special, but the sunset was truly unique for us, as in NSW we never get to see the sun setting over the ocean - we only can see it rising!
